What are the two most expensive words in business?

Here’s something to watch out for, especially when you are reading or learning, these two words are very dangerous: “I KNOW.”

As we get older, we might not be as vocal as a truculent teenager and proclaim out loud “I KNOW,” but the brain switches off. You’ll subconsciously think ‘Oh I know this bit…’ It’s very dangerous! You could miss something extremely important.

So if you hear yourself saying this instead ask yourself, “isn’t that interesting? I wonder if I could learn more about that?”

Owing to the way our brains work, where there’s so much going on, when you hear things again or from a slightly different angle on the same topic it sparks a ‘blinding flash of the obvious.’ “Oh I knew that but wasn’t doing it,” or… “I hadn’t equated that to the outcome,” etc.

We all have blind spots – things we don’t know that we don’t know or things we do know but are not focused on closely enough when we should be. Having people with different viewpoints, experience and beliefs reduces the overall likelihood of blind spots affecting your business decisions.

So don’t let “I Know” hold you back!
